Man Utd v West Ham: Improving hosts to hand Hammers more misery

Published:

Manchester United v West Ham could prove on of the most intriguing Premier League games of the weekend. The Hammers desperately need a result, but Jose Mourinho’s Red Devils have hit a sweet spot of form.

United’s last three games have marked a sizeable upswing in results, with a confident 3-1 win at Swansea followed up by a dominant performance against Arsenal, with only Olivier Giroud’s aerial prowess denying Mourinho what would arguably have been his best win in the Old Trafford dug out.

And a 4-0 thumping of Feyenoord in the Europa League on Thursday sees the hosts head into this fixture as 9/20 favourites.

For West Ham, they head north as 13/2 shots, and that’s largely down to Slaven Bilic’s men owning the second-worst defence in the Premier League before this weekend’s games.

The Hammers snatched defeat from the jaws of victory last time out at Tottenham, and they’ve now dropped eight points from winning positions this season – the highest in the division.

The Londoners will also be without Winston Reid following his dismissal late on at White Hart Lane, and their away record reads six defeats from their last seven fixtures.

With that in mind, Man United to win and both teams to score could prove popular at 21/10.

Equally, the 17/2 on the hosts to come from behind and win may well be the best value of the weekend.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic leads the first goalscorer betting at 10/3, with Marcus Rashford at 4/1, but all eyes will be on Wayne Rooney.

The United skipper moved to within one goal of Sir Bobby Charlton’s 249 United goal record, and just two more would see him become the Red Devils’ all-time highest scorer.

Rooney is 9/2 to score first, 6/4 to net anytime and if he’s to break that record this weekend, 8/1 to score a brace.

Diafra Sakho is 10/3 to score anytime for the visitors, with Andre Ayew 10/3 and star man Dimitri Payet 15/4.

But scoring goals hasn’t been West Ham’s problem this season, and this improving United-frontline is well poised to take advantage.
