Liverpool close in on title favouritism after free-scoring Watford rout
Published:Liverpool are closing in on Manchester City as Premier League title favourites, according to the latest odds.
The Reds have been cut to 11/4 from 7/2 following their 6-1 rout of Watford, as City drift to 11/5, having been odds-on for the title just weeks ago.
For the first time in 916 days, Liverpool are top of the table.
Arsenal were eased a point to 6/1 following their draw with Spurs, but the bookies reckon they will land the spoils over the course of the season as it’s 2/5 they finisher higher than their rivals, who are 7/4 for the North London bragging rights.
City’s slip at home to Boro was great news for one Ladbrokes customer however, with the late equaliser landing a five team ‘match result and both teams to score’ accumulator, paying £18,646 from £3.
Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “Liverpool were the clear winners in the title race this weekend. The Reds could easily become favourites after the next round of fixtures should they score a hatful and City drop points again.”
He added: “The results definitely went the way of the bookies over the weekend but one customer had the foresight to back Boro to get a point at the Etihad and was rewarded handsomely as a result.

Liverpool meanwhile, can now rest safely in the knowledge that they’re topping the table for at least the next two weeks while Premier League duties take a backseat for the international break.
