Having already bagged Joel Matip for nothing in the summer, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp looks set to return to Schalke in a spot of January transfer shopping.

The Anfield manager is reportedly interested in signing Matip’s former comrade Sead Kolasinac, and again, Klopp won’t have to pay much.

The 23-year-old’s contract with the Bundesliga outfit runs out next summer, and so Schalke face losing another defender to the Merseyside outfit for nothing, unless they sell in January.

With little to no improvement required to Liverpool’s attacking force, it makes sense for Klopp to target defensive reinforcements.

The Reds are very much in title contention, but one clean sheet in 10 Premier League games highlights a weakness which may cost them later in the year.

Kolasinac has spent his entire career with Die Konigsblauen, coming through the club’s youth system.

The full-back has since racked up over 90 senior appearances.

With 16 caps for Bosnia-Herzegovina to his name, Kolasinac was a large part of Schalke’s successful run to fourth place in last season’s Bundesliga.

Liverpool may have to get their elbows out however, with Chelsea also believed to be vying for the defender’s services as Antonio Conte looks to shore up his own back-line.

And West Brom have also been linked with Kolasinac, though the Baggies have their work cut out to persuade the Karlsruhe-born defender on a move to the Hawthorns over Liverpool or west London.

But having already raided Schalke once, Liverpool appear to be the favourites.

Klopp will be hoping to maintain his side’s title tilt this weekend, when his side host Watford on Sunday.

The Reds are odds-on 1/4 for another three points to maintain their presence at the top.
