Leicester launch £15m bid for Genk’s midfield dynamo

Leicester have tabled a £15.5m for Genk’s midfield superstar Onyinye Ndidi, according to reports in Belgium.

The defensive midfielder has also been linked with Manchester United, as he continues to impress for the Belgian Jupiler League outfit.

Belgium media outlet HLN have reported this week that the Foxes’ bid would see the teenager arrive at the Premier League champions as soon as January.

Ndidi made his debut for Genk in the 2014-15 season, before his breakthrough campaign last term saw him rack up 26 appearances as De Smurfen finished fifth.

Genk are seventh this time around, but boast the league’s fourth-strongest home record.

Impressively, the 19-year-old has already made 26 starts in all competitions, playing in every minute of his side’s domestic and European matches.

And despite playing in a role where yellow cards can come on a regular basis, a measured and mature approach has resulted in just six bookings.

Ndidi is also capable at centre or right-back, and can boast international experience too with six caps for Nigeria.

It’s believed Genk may be disappointed with Leicester’s opening gambit, with reports claiming the Belgian outfit are seeking somewhere nearer £21.5m for Ndidi’s signature.

The Foxes could use a bit more steel through the middle, with Claudio Ranieri’s men losing yet another away fixture at the weekend.

Leicester sit just two points above the relegation, but happily, their Champions League exploits thus far have been superb.

The East Midlands outfit are already assured of a Europa League place post-Christmas, but can secure a spot in the last-16 of the Champions League if they avoid defeat to Club Brugge.

It’s 4/9 the Foxes book their knockout place with victory and put temporarily forget about their domestic worries.
