January exit looks on the cards for frozen out Liverpool star

Published:

England international Daniel Sturridge is now 6/4 to leave Liverpool in January, while 7/4 says he goes next summer, as the striker looks for regular first-team football.

Jurgen Klopp has adapted an approach which seems to suit Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane a lot better than it does Sturridge, who sees himself as an out-and-out striker.

And given that Klopp’s style has paid off in the opening 11 games of this Premier League campaign, it’s unlikely he’ll change things any time soon.

That means Sturridge may well have to pack his bags and search for a new club, but he needn’t worry, as there are a whole host of sides that are likely to do battle for his signature.

And it’s Slaven Bilic’s West Ham that are currently leading the way in the race to sign the forward, with 7/2 on offer for the 27-year-old to swap Anfield for the London Stadium.

Simone Zaza arrived at the east London outfit in the summer on a season-long loan deal from Juventus. However, the forward is yet to set the league alight and it’s reported that the Hammers are looking into the option of sending him back to his parent club when the January transfer window opens.

That means Bilic would be on the lookout for another striker, and it’s unlikely he’ll find anyone of Sturridge’s quality midway through a campaign.

But our traders aren’t ruling out a move to north London, with Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal second and third in the market at 4/1 and 9/2 respectively, while it’s 7/1 for him to make the controversial switch across Merseyside to Everton.

Currently valued at £21.25m on transfermarkt.co.uk, potential suitors would expect to pay nothing more than £30m for the striker’s services, especially given the position he currently finds himself in at Liverpool, for whom he’s scored 44 goals in 77 league games.

And given the amount of money at every top-flight club’s disposal nowadays, Sturridge certainly represents great value.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “The race is on to snap-up Sturridge and the odds suggest the Anfield hierarchy can expect an almighty tug-of-war to decide his next destination.”
