Have Manchester United found their Luke Shaw replacement?

Published:

Manchester United could be about to signal the end of Luke Shaw’s Old Trafford career, with reports linking the Premier League outfit with a move for Corinthians left-back Guilherme Arana.

The 19-year-old Brazilian broke into the Corinthians first-team last year, and has continued to impress for the Serie A side this term.

The Sao Paulo native has also been capped at U20 level for Selecao.

Valued transfermarkt.co.uk at just £850k, Arana would cost relative pocket money to Jose Mourinho and United.

But the Portuguese may face competition from one of his former employers, with Inter Milan reportedly interested in Arana too.

The Italian outfit face a fight to win this battle however, due to Serie A’s restrictions on the number of Non-EU players permitted in a squad.

It doesn’t bode well for Shaw then, who has been on the receiving end of some stinging criticism from Mourinho this season.

The former Southampton man has featured 12 times for the Red Devils this season, but speculation continues to surround the defender over his future in Manchester.

United are no strangers to signing Brazilian full-backs either, with twins Rafael and Fabio da Silva racking up over 220 appearances for the 13-time Premier League winners between 2008 and 2015.

Mourinho’s strength in the transfer market will be massively enhanced if he can guide United back into the top-four and the Champions League.

Currently sitting sixth, United are 11/10 to pick up just a second win in eight league games, when they head to Everton on Sunday.
