Former Manchester United star keen on return to Premier League

Published:

When a man who’s netted a staggering 94 goals in the Premier League admits he’s open to the idea of a return to England, it’s no surprise to see a number of clubs throw their names into the mix. And that may well be the case over the coming days as Dimitar Berbatov announced his desire to play in the top-flight once again.

The Bulgarian striker spent time at Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Fulham over the course of nine seasons in England. And despite reaching the latter stages of his career, he certainly still has a lot to offer.

Ladbrokes News has assessed some of the potential destinations for the 35-year-old should his wish be granted.

Swansea

New manager Bob Bradley has already expressed his interest in Berbatov – who, of course, is a free agent after being released by Greek outfit PAOK.

Speaking about a potential move for the two-time Premier League winner, Bradley said:

“I’ve met him a few times and I know he’s anxious to get back in the PL.

Everybody in our club knows that, so when there are discussions, his name is mentioned. But where it goes, we’ll see. He’s on our radar – but there are a lot of things on our radar.”

Don’t be surprised if we see the former Spurs man at the Liberty Stadium soon.

Sunderland

Boy could Sunderland use a player like Berbatov.

Right now they’re heavily reliant on Jermain Defoe for goals, and the pair know each other well, having spent 18 months playing alongside each other at White Hart Lane between 2006-2008.

The experienced striker knows all about relegation fights, too, having spent a season-and-a-half with Fulham where he grabbed an impressive 19 league goals for the Cottagers.

And after expressing his willingness to pass on some of his wisdom to younger players, the likes of Duncan Watmore and even Fabio Borini could learn a thing or two from Berbatov.

West Ham

Slaven Bilic’s side have been incredibly unlucky with injuries since the first ball was kicked in this campaign.

Summer signing Andre Ayew was ruled out for up to six months after just two appearances in the league for the Hammers, while Andy Carroll continues to be riddled with problems.

And while Ashley Fletcher looks to be more of a player for the future, Berbatov would certainly be an excellent addition to a side looking to better last season’s seventh-place finish.

Granted, he’s not the quickest of players, but he would bring bags of experience and an eye for goal, something West Ham have been lacking of late.

So what do you think? Would you welcome Berbatov to your team? Have your say in the comments section below!
