Forget Ajax star – Man City have their own Eredivisie wonderkid

Published:

Reports this week are suggesting that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is weighing up a move for Danish sensation, Kasper Dolberg.

And although the 19-year-old has impressed in his first full-season for Dutch giants Ajax, there’s another name taking the Eredivisie by storm, and it’s one the Citizens will know all too well.

Enes Unal is currently on loan at FC Twente from the Etihad, and despite being just 19-years-old, he’s already become a key figure at Die Grolsch Veste Enschede.

Nine goals and two assists in 14 games make this Unal’s best season to date in a career which began at Turkish outfit Bursaspor.

City snapped the striker up for £2.5m in 2015 and have since loaned him out to three different clubs. But it’s at FC Twente where the forward – already with three senior caps for Turkey to his name – has really shone, averaging a goal every 104 minutes in the league this season.

Guardiola certainly isn’t lacking in the attacking department, with leading Premier League goalscorer, Sergio Aguero and Nigerian star Kelechi Iheanacho his preferred choices at the moment.

But, with Brazil wonderkid Gabriel Jesus set to arrive in January, coupled with the inevitable return of Unal at the end of the season AND the emergence of Brahim Diaz in City’s youth squad – a move for Dolberg seems unnecessary at this moment in time.

Eagle-eyed supporters will have seen that Unal netted again last weekend away at NEC Nijmegen, and fans can catch a glimpse of their latest young star in action again next weekend when Twente head to Willem II.
