Everton tweet suggests at least one Man United star is on the way

It’s been a manic opening few months in the Premier League, and as things stand, only five points separate the top five. But Manchester United and Everton are both eight points off the pace after their first 11 games, as managers Jose Mourinho and Ronald Koeman are settling into life at their new clubs.

But, in keeping with the recent history between the two sides, the Toffees and the Red Devils could be set to do business in the transfer window once again, as the Special One looks to clear out any deadwood his predecessor left behind at Old Trafford.

That includes one name the Everton boss is all too familiar with, having worked with Morgan Schneiderlin at Southampton for a year, before the Frenchman was sold to United back in 2015.

And his presence would certainly be welcomed at Goodison Park, with the Toffees currently crying out for a player like Schneiderlin in the centre of the park. While Gareth Barry has been a key figure at the Merseyside outfit, he’ll be turning 36 in three months, and a long-term solution may just be the man
United spent just shy of £30m on last season.

But there was one tweet this weekend that caught our eye, and it came from Everton’s official page.

Keeping supporters up to date with how their players are doing on international duty, this was posted at half-time in Sunday evening’s games…

It seems a little strange for the club to be giving a running commentary on Memphis Depay – a player who has nothing to do with them as things stand.

But when you consider the fact that Koeman has always been an admirer of his compatriot, then of course, this post sent Twitter into meltdown, with fans agreeing that this all-but confirms Depay’s arrival at the next available opportunity.

Between them, Schneiderlin and Depay have played just 26 minutes of Premier League football this season at Man United, and although transfermarkt.co.uk values the pair at £45m combined, it’s unlikely Koeman would have to spend that much on two players Mourinho is clearly so keen to get rid of.

Right now, we’re offering 4/6 for Depay to swap Manchester for Merseyside in January, with 11/8 available for Schneiderlin to reunite with his old boss and 3/1 for Koeman to make a double swoop.

So what do fans think? Would the pair be welcomed at Goodison Park? Would the United faithful be glad to see the back of them? Have your say in the comments section below!
