Can’t see past MVG in the Worlds? There’s still value to be had

It’s not Christmas until the first dart is thrown inside Ally Pally. That’s the rule. And while we’re still a couple of weeks away from that, we’re already looking at where the value lies in this year’s PDC World Darts Championship.

Can Gary Anderson make it three world titles in a row? Will anyone stop Michael van Gerwen? Or could we see another Kirk Shepherd-esque performance?

There’s one man our money is going on. We’re not saying he’ll win it – quite frankly there’s just no stopping MVG right now, but there’s every chance he could make it to his second World Championship final, and his seventh of the year.

Step forward Peter Wright.

At the start of the year, the Scot was 20/1 to go all the way in this tournament. 11 months later and his odds have dropped to 12s.

And that’s a credit to his performances since the turn of the year.

Snakebite was agonisingly close to beating Mighty Mike at the Ladbrokes World Series of Darts Finals earlier in November, eventually losing 11-9 in Glasgow.

And heading into this tournament as the third seed means he’s been handed a winnable group, with James Wade probably being his only threat for a Quarter Final spot.

But even the Machine hasn’t been able to stop Wright of late, losing his last three matches against the 46-year-old.

He’s probably one of the best players NEVER to win a major tournament, and that run is likely to continue into 2017 – especially if he does meet MVG in this year’s final. The Dutchman has won his last 16 against Wright.

However, given that we’re paying ½ odds on players to finish 1-2, that means you can get 6/1 on Snakebite reaching the final.
