Arise, Sir Andy – Murray odds-on for New Year Knighthood

Published:

Sir Andy Murray could be on the cards in the near future, according to the latest odds.

Murray has enjoyed a sensational 2016, winning eight ATP titles including a second Wimbledon.

A second Olympic gold medal also came his way in Rio this year, before the Scot finally usurped Novak Djokovic to become world number one for the first time.

The bookies rate the 29-year-old at just 1/3 to be knighted in the New Year’s Honour list, while further plaudits could be coming this way in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

The Scot is already a two-time recipient of the annual accolade, and having been 12/1 earlier this year, Murray’s sensational form has ushered him into huge 1/6 favouritism.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Murray’s had an incredible year on and off the court, and the odds suggest we’ll be calling him Sir Andy sooner rather than later.”
