Are Lampard and Gerrard both preparing for a Premier League return?

They may well be in the latter stages of their respective careers, but there’s no doubting Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard would be welcomed at almost any club in world football. And the pair may have plenty of options in January as they’re expected to leave the MLS.

New York City have already confirmed Lampard’s imminent departure, while we’re awaiting LA Galaxy to do the same with Gerrard in the coming days.

That means a whole host of top clubs will be on red alert for a mid-season boost. And it’s likely they’ll both be returning to Europe, more specifically England.

There’s certainly value to be had then in the 20/1 for the pair to return to these shores and play at the top-flight, while 50/1 says they become teammates at club level for the first time in their careers.

For all of the medals on display in Gerrard’s trophy cabinet, one he doesn’t boast is the Premier League. And while he’s previously stated he’d never play for an English side other than his beloved Liverpool, he could kill two birds with one stone with a return to Merseyside, as the Reds look to secure their first ever Premier League title.

Two years Gerrard’s senior, Lampard may have to accept a place in a club outside the top six should he return to the top flight of English football.

That’s not to say there wouldn’t be interest in the midfielder, who has three Premier League’s, four FA Cups and a Champions League medal to his name.

For starters, West Ham – a place where Lamps spent the first six years of his senior career – would welcome back the 38-year-old with open arms, as his experience could be vital in the Hammers’ push for a European spot.

So, will two of the biggest names to come out of English football in the last 20 years be returning to the league where it all began for them? And would fans want to see them back?
