Tottenham to rival Napoli in pursuit of Romanian midfield protégé

With one of the youngest squads in the Premier League, Tottenham are certainly building a bright future. And the White Hart Lane outfit are looking to add another of Europe’s biggest young talents to their ranks, in the shape of Razvan Marin.

The 20-year-old midfielder has caught Spurs’ eye following a string of impressive performances for Romanian side Viitorul Constanta.

Born in Bucharest, Marin came through the Viitorul youth setup, making his senior debut three years ago aged just 17.

Since then, the central midfielder has grown in stature, becoming a first-team regular with almost 80 appearances to his name.

His performances have seen national recognition too, with Marin already counting two Romanian caps to his name.

It all points to a future at the highest level, especially when you consider Viitorul’s foundation and ethos.

The club was created in 2009 by the man Romanians call ‘The King’, Gheorghe Hagi, and the former Barcelona, Real Madrid and Galatasaray star is also the manager.

Having played for some of the world’s biggest sides, Hagi knows a thing or two about talent, and he launced Viitorul with the intention of nurturing young Romanian footballers through their early careers.

Viitorul translates into English as Future, and the club boasts some of the best facilities in the country.

Marin, then, could well be on his way to becoming the club’s first success story.

Valued at just over £1m by transfermarkt.co.uk, Mauricio Pochettino wouldn’t need to break the bank to land one of Romania’s brightest prospects.

But the Argentine may need to fend off attention from Napoli, with the Serie A side reportedly long-term admirers of the classy midfielder.
