Thistlecrack fancied for Gold Cup glory after Chepstow breeze

Thistlecrack will win the 2017 Cheltenham Gold Cup ahead of Don Cossack, Vautour and Cue Card. At least that’s the verdict from today’s poll, after we gave them the option of the aforementioned horses to choose from following Thistlecrack’s sixth consecutive victory this afternoon at Chepstow.

The eight-year-old went on to win comfortably by four lengths after Aqalim looked to challenge at the penultimate fence in Wales, and he’s now just 5/1 to win the big one next March at Prestbury Park..

In fact, results from today’s poll were eerily similar to how the market looks at the moment, as Thistlecrack came in first-place with 33 per cent of the vote.

Meanwhile, Vautour was relatively close in second-place with 26 per cent of the votes going the seven-year-old’s way. Willie Mullins’ charge is considered to have a 7/1 chance of winning what will be his first Gold Cup next year.

Perhaps the biggest surprise to come from today’s poll was that Cue Card finished in third-place ahead of Don Cossack, with 22 per cent of the vote.

The Colin Tizzard-trained horse, who runs in the colours of Jean Bishop, famously fell three out this year, in a race which Don Cossack went on to win.

While Cue Card is currently 10/1 to get the job done next year, the reigning champion is available at 8s to become just the seventh horse to win back-to-back Gold Cups.
