Spurs boss latest in frame to succeed under-fire Zidane

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is enjoying greater success in the Europa League this season

Life as manager of Real Madrid wouldn’t be the same if there wasn’t constant speculation over your future, even for a club icon like Zinedine Zidane.

The Frenchman only led Los Blancos to Champions League glory last season, having been installed in the dugout as a mid-campaign replacement for Rafa Benitez.

However, whispers over his uncertain job security continue to grow, as potential targets to succeed the former midfielder emerge.

Last week, Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel was being offered up as a Real Madrid target and now Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino seems to have joined the Spanish club’s shortlist.

The Argentine has had an impressive impact on the north Londoners since taking over, turning Spurs into title contenders last season and sitting three points off top spot so far this term.

Qualifying for the Champions League and reaching the final of the 2015 League Cup are among the former Espanyol man’s other on field achievements, while a raft of home grown players have emerged under his tutelage.

The Daily Mirror suggest all of that appeals greatly to Real Madrid, who remain uncertain over Zidane’s ability to deliver sustained long-term success.

Los Blancos currently sit top of La Liga after 10 games, and hold a slim two-point advantage over fierce rivals Barcelona.

The Bernabeu giants haven’t claimed league glory since 2012, in which time they’ve had to watch the Blaugrana claim three titles and local enemies Atletico Madrid snare one.

After sharing a 1-1 draw with Leicester last time out Spurs are now 10/11 to finish in the top four and 12/1 to claim the title.
