Shot-happy Spurs and Liverpool are England’s most watchable

Knowing what we do after eight games of the Premier League season, it was a terrible shame for the neutral that Tottenham and Liverpool’s first meeting was scheduled for August.

In the third game of the campaign, Spurs hosted Jurgen Klopp’s Reds yet to really find their groove in the final third.

The visitors were arguably the better of the two teams at White Hart Lane that day, but this wasn’t the thrill-a-minute fixture that had already been served up the last time Liverpool were in north London.

But as the two prepare to renew their rivalry in the EFL Cup at Anfield on Tuesday night, it’s clear that this is the perfect time to watch two of England’s most entertaining outfits do battle.

Only Southampton separate the pair as the two leading shot-makers in the top flight. Spurs head the list by having 18.38 attempts on goal per game, while Liverpool aren’t far behind on 18.00.

Without the ball both sides’ intensity to close down their opponent is breathtaking, and Spurs’ use of the press to hand Manchester City their first league defeat at the start of October was arguably the performance of the season thus far.

Whether the two teams send out their first-choice XIs for this tussle is extremely doubtful, but the pair should serve up an entertaining encounter nevertheless.

We make the Reds the favourites for victory, at a price of 4/7, while Mauricio Pochettino’s visitors can be backed at 19/4. The draw is a 3/1 chance.
