Sheffield Wednesday backed to be Yorkshire’s Championship kings

If you’re an ardent supporter of a Yorkshire football club, then the chances are you’re side are plying their trade in the Championship. Sheffield Wednesday are one such outfit and they’re set to claim the local bragging rights this season.

That’s the verdict according to our @Ladbrokes Twitter poll today, which asked who will finish highest in the Championship table out of Wednesday, Huddersfield Town, Leeds United and Barnsley.

Despite sitting five points behind David Wagner’s Huddersfield in the table, it was Wednesday who came top of the pile with 43 per cent of the vote.

Carlos Carvalhal’s men beat the Terriers into second place with 35 per cent.

The current standings already suggests those two sides are destined for play-off and promotion contention, while Leeds and Barnsley look set for a campaign mired in mid-table.

Garry Monk’s Whites came third in today’s poll with 16 per cent.

That left the Tykes in fourth as they make their return for the second tier following promotion from League One last season.

In terms of betting, Huddersfield are Yorkshire’s most likely Championship victors, with 18/1 saying they win the league in May.

Wednesday’s odds of 22/1 adds weight to their topping of today’s poll, while the pair are each 7/2 to be playing Premier League football next season.
