Poll Reaction: Man United to make Prem top four? No chance

Published:

Jose Mourinho will have had a fitful night after Manchester United’s 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Chelsea yesterday, and the Red Devils boss won’t be feeling any better after seeing the result of today’s @Ladbrokes Twitter poll.

The vast majority of you are tipping the Old Trafford outfit to miss out on making the Premier League’s top four again this season, with 76 per cent of voters unconvinced by Jose’s ability to turn things around.

That conclusion is backed by the fact that United have failed to make the Champions League spots twice in the last three seasons, while they’ve not been among the top trio since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure in 2013.

And there’s been little to cheer for those on the red side of Manchester so far this season, with that crushing defeat at Stamford Bridge the third in half-a-dozen Premier League games.

However, despite Mourinho’s odds of an exit by next summer slashed to just 7/2, the under-fire gaffer can take a crumb of comfort from the 24 per cent of you backing United to turn things around and secure a top-four spot.

Having never finished below second place in any of his 12 full seasons in club management, there are few in world football who can match his pedigree. So is it just a matter of time before United click?

Next up in the Premier League is a battle with Burnley on Saturday, where United are 1/5 favourites to win.

Drop points, and the 4/6 for Mourinho’s men to miss out on the top four this season could fall again. Win, and it could be the confidence boost which propels them towards making the cut at 6/5.
