Poll Reaction: Bisping the champion of incredible sporting weekend

Published:

Michael Bisping retained his crown as Middleweight World Champion in UFC 204 on Saturday – and the 37-year-old has won the hearts of the sporting world as today’s @Ladbrokes poll proved.

The veteran beat Dan Henderson on an emotional night in Manchester for the victorious local lad, who won by a unanimous points decision to secure a record 20th triumph in the organisation.

That unsurprisingly bought him the top spot in our poll, with 39 per cent of you saying that Bisping’s victory was the best sporting performance of the weekend.

Hopefully that double success will mean those bruises sting a little less for the magnificent fighter, who chalked up more than a few cuts and bruises en route to his dramatic victory.

Another man who pulled no punches – and took one or two – was Coatbridge-born boxer Ricky Burns, who defended his WBA world title after a gruelling contest against Kiryl Relikh.

That success earned Burns 24 per cent of the vote – and we’re expecting quite a few of those watched his triumph in Glasgow’s Hydro Arena on Friday evening.

Next up were Wigan Warriors, who earned 20 per cent of the vote after coming up trumps in the Super League Grand Final for the second time in four years, with a 12-6 defeat of Warrington Wolves in a hard-fought and engrossing game.

Finally, the All Blacks followed narrowly behind with 18 per cent after their 57-15 hammering of the Springboks in Durban.
