Now Barcelona are linked with surprise Nathaniel Clyne deal

Nathaniel Clyne is very much a man in demand. Manchester City were linked with the Liverpool right-back earlier this week, and now Barcelona are believed to have joined the chase.

The back pages today suggest the Catalan giants are eyeing up a £20m move for the Anfield ace, who has shone under Jurgen Klopp in the past 12 months.

Barca have failed to adequately replace Dani Alves, who departed the Nou Camp in the summer, and continued links with Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin highlight their eagerness for a right-back.

And in a real surprise twist, Luis Enrique was linked with a move for Stoke City’s Glen Johnson this week too.

The club appear to be in a similar situation to City, where Pep Guardiola is also keen on landing a new man for the role.

Clyne has played in every minute of the Premier League season so far, as Liverpool have emerged as genuine title contenders.

And the 25-year-old is now an England regular too, racking up 14 caps in the last two years.

The Reds are no strangers to losing star men to Barca, having seen Luis Suarez leave Anfield for them in 2014 in a £65m deal.

As with the Man City connection, it seems highly unlikely Liverpool would sell, but it’s the latest indicator of how highly-rated Clyne has become.

He’ll get his latest chance to impress on Saturday evening, when Liverpool head to Crystal Palace.

Klopp’s men are 8/11 favourites for a win which would keep them at the sharp end of the table, while 6/4 says Clyne does his bit in helping the Reds keep a clean sheet.
