Liverpool v Manchester United: Mourinho to stall Reds’ charge

Published:

Liverpool may have only played two home games so far this season, but travelling to Anfield looks to be a daunting prospect for the rest of the Premier League already.

Defending champions Leicester were the first team to be batted away by Jurgen Klopp’s collective attacking blur, going down 4-1 in September.

Later that month, Hull arrived with their depleted squad and were reduced to 10-men within the first half an hour. They left with a 5-1 thumping on their record.

Even away from their Merseyside home goals have been flowing for the Reds. There has only been two occasions in all competitions where Liverpool have failed to score more than once.

But with their bubble of confidence growing with every shellacking they hand out, it makes the thought of jamming a pin in their direction an extremely tempting proposition for every visitor.

The role of spoilers won’t appeal to any team more than arch-rivals Manchester United and their thorny manager Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese has made a career out of stopping vaunted attacking outfits in their tracks – Inter Milan’s halting of Barcelona in the Champions League perhaps his most famous example.

Only Watford have managed to score multiple goals against the Red Devils as a home side and shutting out a vibrant Liverpool side will be their prime objective.

They have history of doing so too. The Reds have only scored more than one goal in two home games from seven outings against their Old Trafford rivals.

We go 1/1 that the game contains under 2.5 goals at Anfield on Monday Night Football and 4/5 that the hosts are held under 1.5.
