Liverpool v Man Utd gets top billing when Premier League returns

Published:

The international break served up some genuine drama, not least San Marino’s first goal of any description for over a year, but you just cannot beat the razzmatazz and needle provided by the Premier League.

In case you weren’t aware (have you been at a meditation retreat?) the EPL is set to make a return on October 15th, following a two-week hiatus for matters of World Cup Qualification.

There was so much going on when the action was paused, that’s it’s very hard to nail down just five storylines set to whet the whistle of football fans and punters throughout the land.

The English Clasico

England’s historic football giants may have only won a single title between them in five seasons, but there is never any shortage of spice when Liverpool and Manchester United draw swords.

The Reds are 21/20 favourites given their impressive form under Jurgen Klopp this season, though Jose Mourinho is well versed in silencing the Anfield crowd as he most famously did as Chelsea boss in 2013/14. All eyes will be glued to this edition of Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

Are Chelsea going to turn a big-game corner?

A victory at Hull going into the break will look superficial if champions Leicester continue to make Antonio Conte suffer in the big games, albeit the Foxes appear to have lost focus.

If the Blues cannot inflict a fourth-straight away defeat on Claudio Ranieri’s men, pressure will mount on the manager.

A genuine six-pointer (Stoke v Sunderland)

Only seven games are in the books, yet given their respective starts (both dreadful) drop-zone dwellers Stoke and Sunderland will be desperate to walk off with the points on offer in the Potteries.

Bob Bradley’s Swansea bow

A first American manager in the top-flight has been hailed in the USA and given the amount of cross-pond investment in the EPL, it seems right that Bradley gets a crack of the whip.

Baptisms of the fiery variety seldom reach more searing temperatures than Arsenal – the Premier League’s form team – at the Emirates.

The return of KDB

Before his hamstring pull, Kevin De Bruyne was hogging MOTD highlights packages thanks to his majestic play and eye for a killer pass.

Tidings that the twinkle-toed Belgian visionary could be back to face Everton should have the neutral jumping for joy.
