Frankie: Journey picked up like she had roller skates

Frankie Dettori has celebrated a victory on British Champions Day at Ascot for the second year in succession after steering Journey to a four-length success in the Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes.

Our Ladbrokes ambassador had already landed the Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup 12 months ago on Flying Officer when finishing a close second in the Fillies & Mares contest to Simple Verse.

But this time the daughter of Dubawi went one better with a career-best performance. Those betting on the race were clearly expecting as much, backing Journey in from 8/1 to 4/1 on the day.

Frankie said: “She deserves a Group 1, she’s been running so well. I can’t believe the turn of foot that she showed today. I’m delighted for her.

“She picked up like she had roller skates. She was a joy to ride.

“It’s always great to ride a big winner at Ascot.”

Journey has now won three races in succession over 1m4f, following victories in a Group 3 at Haydock and a Listed Race at Newmarket.
