Former star believes Aberdeen pose big threat for second place

Former Dons star Darren Young believes Aberdeen are more than a match for Rangers in the Ladbrokes Premiership.

While Celtic appear clear favourites to win the league, there could be a battle on to see who finishes second.

Aberdeen have been the team to go closest to the Hoops over recent seasons, but Rangers’ promotion to the top-flight put that under threat.

However, Mark Warburton’s men haven’t yet managed to put together the form of top of the table challengers while Aberdeen have turned a corner over the last month.

And Young insists that the Ibrox side will have a real challenge from his former team.

Young exclusively told Ladbrokes News: “Aberdeen, Hearts and Rangers will still be there challenging.

“Celtic will win the league easily as far as I’m concerned. I don’t see them losing it.

“Rangers have big spending power compared to Aberdeen, but Derek McInnes has done a great job since he came in. He’s won a Cup final, taken them into Europe a few times and his record stands for itself.

“I don’t see Rangers running away with second place because of that.”

Aberdeen are 17/4 to beat Celtic at Pittodrie in this Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off.
