Fantasy Football: Man Utd forward poised to hit purple patch?

Jose Mourinho - Man United

Having shaken the scoring monkey off his back before the Premier League signed off for two weeks, Manchester United’s Anthony Martial could be a shrewd addition to the fantasy football stable during the international break.

Martial’s form had rightly been criticised after a disappointing summer personally for France spilled over into his early United performances in 2016/17.

No goals were forthcoming despite being granted four league starts by Jose Mourinho, though his scoring cameo against Stoke most recently was the perfect tonic for a player who generally scored in clusters during his mesmerising debut campaign.

Having christened his Old Trafford bow with a strike against Liverpool last season, the Frenchman netted a brace in his next top-flight outing, making it four in three all-competition games in the Capital One Cup straight after.

Similar bursts of three in six, two in three, three in four and four in four (all comps) would follow for his new club, so now his sights are finally honed with that exquisite finish against the Potters, Martial may not look back.

At a cost of £9.3m the 20-year-old isn’t cheap, though with teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic (£11.5m) the most transferred out player going into gameweek seven, there could be surplus funds worth redirecting.

Given his exploits against Liverpool last season and Mourinho’s post-match praise for the £38m following his strike, a start against the old rivals when gameweek eight arrives, would be widely expected.
