Falcons travel to Seahawks in clash of two NFL juggernauts

Sunday’s clash between the Seattle Seahawks and Atlanta Falcons pits the NFL’s best defense against its most formidable offense. However, only one man can claim to have had a hand in moulding both units.

Dan Quinn, the Falcons coach who has engineered his side’s impressive 4-1 start, worked as the Seahawks’ defensive coordinator for two seasons between 2013 and 2014.

In that time, Seattle carved out a reputation for defensive toughness and led the league for points scored on defense in both campaigns.

The 46-year-old was appointed to the head coach’s position in Atlanta off the back of his work with the Seahawks and while the Gate City’s defense is yet to match the standards reached at CenturyLink Field, the offense is on fire.

Led by quarterback Matt Ryan, the Falcons are top of the NFL for points, total yards and passing yards per game.

They’ll battle a Seahawks defense that has so far allowed the fewest total yards per game and the second-least passing yards per game.

It’s a clash that easily makes Atlanta’s visit the biggest game of the weekend, with the away team our 11/5 outsiders for victory against 10/27 for the hosts.

Aside from Ryan’s hot throwing arm, the Falcons also boast the considerable talents of wide receiver Julio Jones.

The 27-year-old exploded for a 300-yard game against the Carolina Panthers two weeks ago and sits third in the NFL for receiving yards, with 517.

He’ll likely be guarded by Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman, the self-styled best defender in the game.

Just like the game in general, their battle will be one to keep a keen eye on this Sunday.
