Dundee Utd stopper Cammy Bell wins Ladbrokes Championship award

Published:

Dundee United goalkeeper Cammy Bell has got his gloves on the Ladbrokes Championship Player of the Month award for September.

The former Scotland international began the month by saving an incredible three penalties in the 3-1 victory over Dunfermline Athletic.

Bell faced all three attempts during a breathless first-half, with his fantastic palmed stop of Gavin Reilly’s effort perhaps the best of a fantastic bunch.

Reilly was one of a trio of players – along with Nicky Clark and Paul McMullan – who all tried (and failed) to find a way past the Tangerines’ keeper from the spot, as United chalked up their first away league win of the season.

The 30-year-old stopper was also in impressive form as the Tannadice outfit claimed a dramatic 2-1 victory over Greenock Morton to end the month in style, with Ray McKinnon’s men taking six points from a possible nine.

And the former Rangers’ man’s purple patch between the sticks has even continued into October, with a string of excellent saves as United took a point at Easter Road.

Next up for Cammy and co. is a visit to St Mirren, with 17/20 for the Tangerines to triumph. Do that, and they could find themselves within three points of Queen of the South in top spot.
