‘Different side’ to Klopp likely to be key in bringing Liverpool title

Published:

According to most pundits, Liverpool are doing a pretty good impression of title contenders early in 2016/17 and that’s certainly the vibe being picked up by one of the world’s most feared strikers.

The only advantage Robert Lewandowski has over the likes of the MOTD cast is that he has first-hand knowledge of working with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.

While Liverpool’s manager is constantly lauded for his upbeat demeanour and how it translates to his team’s high octane approach on the pitch, it’s perhaps most interesting to hear Lewandowski suggest that it’s a ruthless streak which can see the German home.

“Under Klopp I think they will be fighting for the title this season,” Lewandowski said. “Pep and Manchester City will not make it easy for anybody to win the title, but Liverpool have a real chance.

“Without European football it can really help them with being fresh for games and with injuries and, even though Klopp is always smiling, he is ruthless enough to take advantage of that.”

Anyone who has watched the emotions etched on to Klopp’s face during a game will have a clue of what Lewandowski, who won successive Bundesliga crowns under him at Borussia Dortmund, is alluding to.

Although the bespectacled German is a staunch advocate of the exaggerated wink or clap to offer his charges encouragement from the sidelines, it works both ways when he feels a player requires berating.

Mr Nice Guy is quickly put on the back burner. Indeed, when Jordan Henderson and James Milner were interviewed in the wake of the recent narrow win over Swansea, Liverpool’s captain and vice skipper certainly hinted that the hairdryer had been produced after 45 sub-standard minutes at the Liberty Stadium.

As the Premier League sits in recess for the autumn qualifiers, Klopp’s men are two points off the pace in fourth and priced up as the 4/1 second favourites for the title behind Manchester City.
