Cowboys’ rookie offense faces stern test against Eagles

That the Dallas Cowboys own the longest current winning streak in the NFL, at five games, is mightily impressive considering their injuries.
Consider too that they’ve got two rookies at quarterback and running back and the feat becomes all the more eyebrow-raising.
Taken in the fourth round and with the 135th overall pick, Dak Prescott wasn’t expected to make much of an impact on the Cowboys’ season.
But when starting quarterback Tony Romo was sidelined with a back injury at the start of the year, the 23-year-old was thrown into the lions’ den. He hasn’t looked back since.
With seven touchdowns thrown and just one interception from 182 attempts, Prescott’s play has allowed the Cowboys to open the season with a 5-1 record from their first six games.
Backing him up is running-back Esekiel Elliott, picked 131 places higher in the same draft. He leads the NFL in total rushing yards, yards per game and rushes for first down.
Together, the pair will be looking to maintain their winning ways against the Philadelphia Eagles, who are flying high themselves, although not necessarily from the play of their own rookie passer.
That’s not to say that Carson Wentz, taken second overall by the Eagles this offseason, has been particularly bad. In fact his eight touchdown passes against three interceptions is pretty good. It’s just that Philadelphia’s defense has been better.
Only the Minnesota Vikings and Seattle Seahawks have allowed fewer points per game than Philadelphia, who ended the Vikings’ unbeaten start to the season last week.
How Prescott and Elliott handle such miserly opposition will be key to victory for Dallas, which we make a 10/21 possibility.
