Cagey ties, streaks over and upset galore in last week’s Ladbrokes SPFL

Just when we thought the tables were taking shape, we have another weekend of surprises to deal with the Ladbrokes SPFL. So in case you missed it, here’s five of the weekend’s biggest talking points.
Nobody wants to run away with Championship
In a bizarre two days of Ladbrokes Championship football, no side in the top-half of the league table picked up three points, meaning just six points separate five teams.
With Hibernian playing on Sunday, Queen of the South were gifted the perfect opportunity to widen the gap at the top of the table, but could only manage a draw away at relegation strugglers Dumbarton.
Falkirk had the chance to overtake Neil Lennon’s men as they faced bottom-side St Mirren, but like their promotion-chasing rivals, they could only take a point out of the weekend.
Hibs continuing to stutter
It’s now three games in a row without a win for the Championship favourites, as Lennon’s side continue to stutter in their attempts to win promotion back to the top-flight.
And once again it’s points dropped at home for the Hibees, who took the lead against a Dundee United side who fought back to earn a draw in the second-half.
Jason Cummings and co have however been presented with the perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways as they welcome bottom of the league St Mirren to Easter Road.
Stenny finally win!
It’s been a long time coming, but Stenhousemuir grabbed their first win of the season away at East Fife, moving off the foot of the League 1 table in the process.
Stenny fans will be hoping their side builds on last weekend’s victory with another three points next week against Stranraer. In fact, three points in that game could see Brown Ferguson’s men climb as high as seventh. Not bad considering their horrendous start…
Montrose put in performance of the weekend
Forfar Athletic were sent crashing back down to reality last weekend, with Gary Bollan’s men suffering their first defeat of the season. It had been a perfect start for the Loons, who are still seven points clear of their nearest challengers.
But Montrose fans will be hoping victory against the seemingly invincible unit of Forfar will act as the catalyst for their season, following an average start to their campaign.
League 2 also played host to our game of the weekend
There wouldn’t have been many people tipping Edinburgh City v Arbroath as their game of the weekend prior to kick-off. But six goals and a red card mean that no other game in the lower leagues of Scottish football came close to this one.
Arbroath took the lead twice at Meadowbank, but City pegged them back on both occasions before taking the lead themselves in the 74th minute.
However, it’s a lead that lasted just five minutes as Martin Scott bundled home an equaliser for the visitors before Jassem Sukar saw red for a wreckless tackle with ten minutes left.
