Bookies report wide open Man Booker field entering home stretch

Madeleine Thien is the 2/1 favourite entering the final day of betting for this year’s Man Booker prize but there are a host of other writers in close proximity.

The Canadian is joined by another two nominees at odds of 4/1 or less in a field that’s proving tough to call for our traders.

Wins for either Thien or Deborah Levy (3/1) would also extend a five-year trend of the victor having odds of 3/1 or less before betting is suspended.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “The literary runners and riders are still tightly bunched entering the final straight. The trends favour a win for either Thien or Levy, but in a year of shocks and surprises it wouldn’t be that much of an upset at all for name to come from left-field and take the prize.”
