Bookies price up shock January Barcelona move for Glen Johnson

Published:

La Liga giants Barcelona have been incredibly generous to Stoke City in recent years, allowing the likes of Marc Muniesa, Bojan Krkic and Ibrahim Afellay to join the Staffordshire outfit. But, in what would undoubtedly be one of the strangest deals in transfer history, the Potters could be about to return the favour, by allowing Glen Johnson to move to the Camp Nou.

Yep, you heard it right. Glen Johnson. 32-year-old, former Liverpool and Chelsea man Glen Johnson.

So, is there any truth in this one?

Well, priced up at 6/1 to team up with the La Liga champions, our traders certainly seem to think so.

It’s no secret that manager Luis Enrique is looking for a new right-back since Dani Alves left for Juventus. And the 46-year-old is reportedly keen on bringing Arsenal star Hector Bellerin back to the club where he spent the early stages of his career.

But while he’s considered to be more of a long-term solution, Johnson could be snapped up the meantime.

Granted, it’s hard for us to imagine Stoke’s number eight sprinting up the touchline to provide an option out wide for the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.

But if it’s experience that the Catalan outfit are after, then Johnson would certainly fit the bill.

The defender has represented England on 54 occasions, and was called up for international duty as recently as this month.

With 328 Premier League appearances, a winner’s medal, 15 top-flight goals, one FA Cup and two League Cups to his name, Johnson certainly knows what it takes to play on some of the biggest stages in football.

And quite simply, there’s none bigger than the Camp Nou.

So, can we expect to see Johnson is the famous red and blue shirt this season? Have your say in the comments section below!

In other news, there’s talk of a player swap taking place between Andres Iniesta and Charlie Adam too. Probably…
