Leicester to beat FC Copenhagen
We never thought we’d see Leicester City mixing it with the big boys in Europe’s biggest club competition. But as much as we pinch ourselves, this is far from a dream.
It’s even more unbelievable when you consider how big a fixture this is for the Foxes.
It’s clear for all to see that Claudio Ranieri’s emphasis this year is on the Champions League, as his side sit rather uncomfortably in 13th-place in the league. And his decision to start Riyad Mahrez on the bench last time out against Chelsea suggests he’s going all out for the win tonight.
Three points, added to their current tally of six, would all but secure Leicester a place in the knockout stages of the tournament.
Borussia Dortmund to beat Sporting Lisbon
Dortmund sit at the top of the table in a group containing Sporting Lisbon, Legia Warsaw and Spanish giants Real Madrid.
And a hard-fought point last time out against the reigning champions of Europe should give this side enough confidence to take all three points away from Portugal.
The two sides have never met before, making it a tough game to call. But the absence of Sporting’s captain Adrien Silva gives the visitors the upper hand in this one.
Newcastle to beat Barnsley
The Magpies look to have found their rhythm in the Championship, with Rafa Benitez’s men winning their last three on the bounce, while Barnsley’s defeat at the hands of Fulham at the weekend with have knocked the confidence out of a side who’d been going so well up until that point.
Though the Tykes boast the advantage of playing at home, Newcastle have an unbeaten record away from home since the opening day which they’ll want to protect, and quite simply, they’re great value at 13/20.
Birmingham City to beat Rotherham United
The Blues suffered just their second defeat of the season last time out away at Nottingham Forest. But playing on Friday night means they’ve had an extra day to recover and prepare for this one.
They’re up against a Rotherham side who’ve lost five on the spin and have just one win to their name so far this campaign.
The Blues are a tough side to break down in their own back yard, losing just one of their last eight league games at St Andrews.
When you couple that with Rotherham’s dismal away form, losing their last seven games on the road while conceding 24 in the process, there’s surely only one way this can go.
Aston Villa to beat Reading
New Villa manager Steve Bruce will be keen to get Villa back to winning ways as soon as possible.
Granted, they’re yet to win an away fixture in any league game this calendar year, but things are changing in the West Midlands, and there’s no doubting the quality oozing throughout the side. One win could trigger a run which could quite easily see Bruce’s men in a play-off spot by Christmas.
While Reading head into this one eight points ahead of their opponents, on the whole they’ve been largely inconsistent.
Given that the Royals have dropped points in their last three games, Bruce will be quietly confident that he can kick-start his Aston Villa career with a crucial win.
And of course, should Villa’s poor away form continue and this be the only leg that lets you down, you can rest safe in the knowledge that you’ll get your original stake back as a free bet!
