3 season-long NBA bets to invest in as the new campaign nears

Published:

With the new NBA season two weeks away and approaching fast, we’ve dug out three season-long bets that will help keep you invested in an 82-game regular season that spans six months:

James Harden to be MVP @ 18/1

Harden has finished in the top 10 of the voting for the regular season’s MVP award in each of the last three seasons.

The closest he came to winning it was his fifth place two years ago, when he averaged 25.4 points and 6.1 assists per game. He has since bettered both of those marks in the following two campaigns.

He’s set for another leap this year with the Houston Rockets’ new coach, Mike D’Antoni, giving the 27-year-old the role of point-guard for the coming season.

Joel Embiid to be Rookie of the Year @ 6/1

Embiid was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the third pick of the 2014 NBA draft. He’s yet to make an appearance in an official game.

A broken bone in his right foot wiped out the 7ft centre’s first two seasons with the team, but after finally recovering Embiid is set to be unleashed on the NBA in what is officially his rookie season.

There is a danger that the Cameroon-born big man’s injury woes will resurface once the rigours of game time set in, but if they don’t Embiid has already shown in pre-season that he’ll be a force for Philly.

Dallas Mavericks to make the Playoffs @ 5/4

The Mavericks have been written off as an NBA force almost every year since they won the Championship in 2011.

Yes, a 38-year-old Dirk Nowitzki remains their best player, but the German has shown little sign of fading as he’s entered the twilight of his career and the Mavericks have remained incredibly consistent as a result.

The Mavs have only missed the playoffs once in the last 16(!) seasons and that was when Nowitzki made the fewest appearances in a campaign since his rookie year.
