Strike pairings lead the line in our Man United v Man City specials

Published:

All eyes are on Old Trafford ahead of Saturday’s Manchester derby, and there’s no better way for the star strikers on show to achieve legendary status with the fans of their club than finding the net in this fiery fixture.

It’s Manchester United’s leading lights who are narrow favourites to team up for goalscoring glory, with 10/1 for both Wayne Rooney and Marcus Rashford to get their names on the scoresheet against their local rivals.

Meanwhile, 11s says goals from Kelechi Iheanacho and Nolito leave Pep Guardiola toasting his Manchester City aces at full-time.

But whichever strike pairing come out on top, there’s sure to be fireworks to watch out for elsewhere.

This fixture has produced a whopping 49 yellow cards and two reds in the last 10 meetings, and with extra spice added by the managerial rivalry on show, the 12/5 for any player to be sent for an early bath could be worth a punt.

And the 6/1 for any Man United player to see red also looks to be well worth a flutter, with Clattenburg having dismissed Red Devils players’ in four of the last 13 United games he’s refereed.

The frosty relationship between Jose Mourinho and Citizens’ boss Guardiola could also provide plenty of entertainment. It’s 5/1 for the pair to snub one another by not shaking hands, and the chance of a goal being ‘exuberantly’ celebrated could lead to Mourinho (8/1) or Guardiola (20/1) being banished to the stands.

A Ladbrokes’ spokesperson said: “We could be set for a domino effect at Old Trafford on Saturday. If the goals fly in, we could see tempers flare on the touchline, and either Pep or Jose could find themselves sent to the naughty step.”

In the match betting, Man United are 11/8 favourites, with both a draw and a City win priced up at 9/4.
