Moore is the form horse to back for USA Ryder Cup points

Two years ago the USA missed out on taking their country’s most in-form player to Gleneageles because Billy Horschel’s FedEx Cup-winning playoff storm occurred once the cut-off point for Ryder Cup selection had passed.

This has led the Americans to extend the deadline until after the Tour Championship in 2016 and if Ryan Moore’s form is anything to go on, the decision could prove inspired for the 4/7 favourites.

Moore made Davis Love III’s 12-man Hazeltine contingent at the 11th hour having gone deep into a play-off with eventual FedEx Cup champion Rory McIlroy in the PGA Tour’s concluding event on September 25th.

Although the Tacoma native eventually succumbed to McIlroy’s majesty having slugged it out for four extra holes, (Kevin Chappell bit the dust after the first) his closing round of 64 which gave him the shot at glory was indicative of his form since the PGA Championship at the end of July.

Indeed, once Baltusrol was in the books, the 33-year-old hit the form jackpot. In seven starts he won the John Deere Classic, finishing in the top 10 on four other occasions, including in three of the four play-off series events culminating in his solo second at East Lake.

Since the season’s final major, Moore led the PGA Tour in Rounds in the 60s, Birdies, Eagles and Stroke Average. His combined score of -57 is seven shots better than any other player in the time frame.

Yet Love’s final pick is a whopping 16/1 to lead the American points scoring charts, 3/1 to be the USA’s highest contributing wildcard (a phenomenal bet considering form) and 1/1 to beat Brooks Koepka’s tally as the only other home Ryder Cup debutant.
