Middlesbrough’s top-half odds slashed after fine start

Published:

These are good times in Middlesbrough, with the Premier League returnees finding the step back into the top tier no problem at all.

Some shrewd deals in the summer transfer window saw boss Aitor Karanka welcome a host of top quality additions to the Riverside Stadium, and results so far suggest the Teessiders can comfortably avoid the drop this term.

Indeed they’ve impressed so much that their odds on a top-half have completely tumbled from 8/1 in pre-season to 3/1 today.

The north east outfit are unbeaten so far, drawing with mid-table regulars Stoke and West Brom while winning against local rivals Sunderland.

With Crystal Palace and Everton next up for Karanka’s men, it may make sense to back Boro for a top-10 result sooner rather than later.

Alvaro Negredo has slotted in marvellously well so far, and if fit, there’s no reason the big Spaniard can’t waltz through double figure goals this term.

Antonio Barragan and Gaston Ramirez have also settled in nicely, and Karanka didn’t miss an opportunity to further beef up his options on Deadline Day, bringing in Calum Chambers on loan from Arsenal.

Boro will look to extend their unbeaten start on Saturday when Palace make the long trip up the M1.

The bookies make the hosts 6/5 favourites for three points, with Pardew’s Eagles 5/2 to put an early downer on Boro’s season.

The Riverside faithful shouldn’t worry though. Karanka’s squad has plenty of quality and even at this early stage, Boro look a very assured bet to bag a top-half finish this season.
