For the second week running, a red card played a huge part in Neil Lennon’s Hibernian side dropping points in their promotion push. That leaves the title-favourites in second place, while their opponents also feature in our five major talking points of the weekend in the Ladbrokes SPFL…
Queen of the South march on
While much of the pre-season attention was on Hibs, Gavin Skelton’s Queen of the South have been quietly going about their business, and they’re now sitting comfortably at the top of the table after a goalless draw with the Hibees.
And it could have been even better for the home side that saw their opponents reduced to ten men in the 55th minute.
No defeats in seven for a side who lost 18 times last campaign is incredible form, and there could well be some value in the 5/1 for the Doonhamers to win the league.
Thriller at Dunfermline
Fans at East End Park were treated to a seven-goal thriller for the second time in four league games this campaign. And once again, it was the home side that ran out 4-3 winners, with bottom side St Mirren being the victims this time.
While inconsistency has been the major stumbling block for Allan Johnston’s men so far this season, he’ll be hoping this win will be the catalyst for a good run.
Stenny show signs of improvement
They may be yet to taste victory this season, but an incredible comeback against Ladbrokes League 1 leaders Alloa Athletic could be the result which kickstarts Stenhousemuir’s campaign.
Granted, the visitors had a man sent off at 2-0, but with just 35 minutes remaining, Jack Ross’ men should have been able to see the game out.
However, Willy Furtardo’s goal in the 79th minute gave the home side a glimmer of hope, and the comeback was complete in the dying moments of the game when 18-year-old Oliver Shaw grabbed the first goal of his professional career.
Winning run has gone on Forfar too long
Question: What do Manchester City and Forfar Athletic have in common?
Answer: Neither side has dropped a point in their respective leagues so far this season.
There’s every chance Gary Bollan will win Ladbrokes Manager of the Month for the second month running, such is his side’s incredible form.
And Forfar’s odds of winning the league are dropping with every game. They were 11/2 before a ball was kicked this season, now they’re 10/11.
Time for a change at Stirling Albion
Stirling Albion last night announced they had parted ways with manager Stuart McClaren after two years in charge of the club.
A terrible start to the campaign has seen them concede a staggering 18 goals in seven games, that’s five more than the next worst defence in the league.
And a 4-0 home defeat against Elgin City at home signalled the end of McClaren’s time in Stirling, who have appointed Martyn Corrigan as caretaker boss until a replacement is found.
