Kane injury hands top-scorer baton back to Man City’s finest

After serving a three-game ban, Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is back in contention to face Swansea in the Premier League and as long as the Argentine has learnt his disciplinary lesson that only means one thing; goals.

If you noticed the internet slowing down this week, it’s likely to have been caused by the amount of fantasy football players crow-barring the Argentine back into their sides.

Young teammate Kelechi Iheanacho may have done a sterling job in his absence, but the Champions League hat-trick Aguero fired in during his domestic hiatus surely reminded Pep Guardiola just who the top dog in the pecking order is.

In terms of the race to win the Premier League’s Golden Boot, the 2014/15 recipient will have been pleased to see that minimal ground has been lost, while another man’s misfortune is also a boon to his chances.

Aguero has three goals to his name, two in arrears of Chelsea’s Diego Costa and unlikely contender Michail Antonio of West Ham.

It’s the injury to Totteham’s Harry Kane, aka the present holder of the top-scorer gong, that increases the chances of our 5/2 favourite rewarding customers come May.

The extent of Kane’s injury and timeframe for recovery have been kept close to Spurs’ chest, though a mooted two-month absence would clearly affect the two-goal hitman’s ability to regain the prize – reflected in new odds of 14/1.

Given the way City are playing under Guardiola early on in the season, it seems like Aguero will be left to fill his boots too.

The rampant Citizens have scored three more than any other team so far in the league, lead the way in big chances created and goals scored from inside the box, which is the natural habitat of their returning No 10.

Only Everton have managed more shots on target than the leaders, so it may be time to back master Kun, before he bags another hat-trick and his price shrinks further.
