James Tavernier wins Ladbrokes Goal of the Month award

James Tavernier’s thunderbolt free-kick against Kilmarnock has been named the Ladbrokes Premiership Goal of the Month for August, having come out on top in our Twitter fan poll.

The skilful full-back produced this magnificent effort in the 1-1 draw at Rugby Park, narrowly seeing off Celtic star Leigh Griffiths into second place.

The Ibrox favourite grabbed 51 per cent of the vote, with Griffiths’ stunning strike at Celtic Park against Aberdeen taking 34 per cent. Meanwhile, maestro Niall McGinn produced a cracking free-kick of his own to grab third place.

Ladbrokes’ Paul Fulton said: “We are only a month into the Ladbrokes SPFL season and already we have had some stunning strikes to pick from. We wanted to give Scottish football fans the chance to pick their best, and Tavernier’s wonder goal was a worthy winner.”

The Bradford-born full-back was clearly proud to win the award – and he’ll be hoping to cap off a fantastic week with victory against Celtic tomorrow.

The Gers are 9/2 for victory, with the Hoops 8/13 and 16/5 for the draw.

Meanwhile, Tavernier is 11/2 to net anytime, and further cement his popularity with the Ibrox faithful.
