How Twitter reacted to Man Utd’s crisis-crushing Leicester rout
Published:Nothing exposes the ridiculousness of trying to portray a team that have won three of their first five Premier League games as being in crisis more than when they stroll into a 4-0 half-time lead against the champions in match six.
How did Twitter react to a result that not only suggested that talk of Jose Mourinho not seeing out his debut campaign at Manchester United was hasty, but that there is just as much chance of it ending with silverware. Let’s explore.
Much of the focus was on Paul Pogba’s performance, described by Gary Neville as his best yet for the club:
Man of the Match, @ManUtd‘s Paul Pogba
1 goal
2 attempts on target
3 key passes
99 passes, 87% accuracy
115 touches – most in game pic.twitter.com/Gj5lsDQt5z— Sky Sports Statto (@SkySportsStatto) September 24, 2016
Pogba meanwhile had a pretty mature but powerful message for his premature critics:
POGBA: ‘I’m v happy for the result & for the goal. I never look at newspapers but I always say one thing: at the end we will see”

Though Pogba got the Sky Sports man-of-the-match award, there was another stellar contender:
Daley Blind’s been phenomenal once again today. 2 assists to his name from left-back. Such a useful utility player to have in Utd’s squad.

Opinion was also divided as to whether this result proved Mourinho’s detractors wrong, or if in fact it was because of the negative feedback that they rallied:
Remember when Juan Mata & Daley Blind were getting sold, Oh and that José Mourinho wouldn’t play Marcus Rashford? Good times. #MUFC

New theories required for the Einsteins… #MUNLEI

Guaranteed Mourinho comes out and has a go at all the ‘Einsteins’ after doing exactly what all the ‘Einsteins’ have been telling him to do.

It was pretty obvious where Leicester went wrong, conceding three goals from corners. Or as one wise guy amusingly phrased it:
We’re making Robert Huth and Wes Morgan look like Robert Huth and Wes Morgan

Some Chelsea fans are hopeful that, fresh from taking their title, Leicester will now replace them as the worst defending champions too:
Chance we might not be the worst title defence come end of Leicester’s season. Maybe.

Things were so bad that Claudio Ranieri decided to take off Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez at half time with the scoreline 4-0. Foxes fan Gary Lineker approved of this move:
Claudio already concentrating on the Champions League. Resting Mahrez and Vardy is shrewd management.
