Hibs duo Lennon and Cummings win Ladbrokes Championship awards

Hibernian striker Jason Cummings and boss Neil Lennon have won the Ladbrokes Championship Player and Manager of the Month awards for August, respectively.

The pair have helped the Hibees to a 100 per cent start in their bid for promotion, with four wins in as many games during the opening month – including a 2-1 triumph at Falkirk and a 4-0 defeat of Greenock Morton.

Cummings scored in each of those games, as he did in every game during August, with a sensational seven in total, including an ice-cool winner against Dunfermline. So there’s no question who Hibs’ top performer has been. But the 21-year-old is staying humble, telling Ladbrokes News:

“Hibs fans are very grateful to us for winning the Scottish Cup, so you want to give everything for them.”

And he was quick to praise his strike partner, saying: “It’s a pleasure to play with Grant [Holt]. He’s had tons of experience, including Premier League football, so you learn a lot from just watching him.”

Another man Cummings has huge praise for is boss Neil Lennon, whose motivational skills have helped the young striker grow.

“I’m enjoying life under Neil Lennon”, he said. “He demands a lot out of us, and always keeps us on our toes – and we’re improving as a squad.”

The new gaffer’s tactics and summer signings have also ensured a great opening month for Hibs, with Lennon explaining: “we looked at the issues from last year, like not being direct as often as we should at this level, and that’s something we’re working to fix.”

And he’s certainly enjoying his new surroundings, telling us: “Hibernian is a great club. The structure and facilities are fantastic, and I inherited a very good bunch of players. I’m really happy with the application and performances from the guys so far.”

Hibs’ super start has seen them backed into odds of 1/3 to win the Ladbrokes Championship title, while 2/7 says they beat newly-promoted Ayr United at Easter Road on Saturday.

Meanwhile, those who think Cummings will keep up his red-hot streak in front of goal can back him at 4/7 to finish the season as Championship top scorer.
