Harry Kane v Jamie Vardy: Who’ll get more Champions League goals?

Published:

Two of England’s star strikers get their Champions League campaigns underway this evening, with Jamie Vardy and Leicester travelling to Club Brugge, while Harry Kane’s Tottenham Hotspur welcome Monaco to Wembley Stadium.

And while both were neck-and-neck in the Premier League scoring charts last season, it’s Kane who our Twitter followers reckon will score the most goals this season in this term’s Champions League.

61 per cent of you agreed that that the Spurs striker will score more than Leicester’s main man up-front in the biggest competition in club football, but Kane’s international teammate is used to the underdog status.

Five years ago, Vardy was plying his trade at Halifax Town, but a whirlwind half-decade has seen him win the Premier League, break Ruud van Nistelrooy’s goalscoring record for netting in consecutive top-flight games and feature for England in a major tournament. Not bad going, really.

Kane already has nine European goals to his name from 29 appearances in the Europa League since 2011, whereas tonight will be the first time Vardy will have stepped out on such a big stage for his club.

Perhaps the Foxes forward would have seen more than 31 per cent of the vote had he moved to Arsenal earlier in the summer.

Nevertheless, his decision to remain with the East Midlands outfit was met with sighs of relief from every Leicester fan across the globe.

Tottenham head into tonight’s tie with Monaco as 3/4 favourites to win, while it’s 4/1 for Kane to grab the first goal.

Elsewhere, the Foxes are also favourites to win their first ever Champions League game against Club Brugge at 7/5, and their number nine is 9/2 to get off to a flyer by netting first.
