Great value in backing Bale to equal Rush’s goal record by Christmas

Published:

Gareth Bale is 10/1 with Ladbrokes to equal Ian Rush’s goalscoring record for Wales before Christmas, following a brace against Moldova in last night’s first World Cup qualifier.

Those two goals now mean that Bale sits on 24 for his country, while Rush is four ahead of him as things stand with 28. The Real Madrid man will have three games to reach that point before the year ends, including home fixtures against Georgia and Serbia and a trip to Austria.

Bale has already scored against both Serbia and Austria in his international career, back in 2012 and 2013, and he’ll be confident he can outwit a Georgian side currently ranked 118th in the world.

Elsewhere, 25/1 says Bale will not only match Rush’s record, but surpass it by Christmas, while it’s 8/1 for the former Southampton man to finish the World Cup qualifying campaign as top goalscorer.

At just 27 years of age, Bale is fancied by many to break another international record by becoming Wales’ most capped player of all-time.

He currently has 62 caps to his name for his country, and is just 30 appearances away from matching current record-holder Neville Southall.

And with a potential four major tournaments still to participate in before he retires, the 8/11 for him to break Southall’s record looks a steal.

A Ladbrokes spokeperson said: “It’s purely a matter of if, not when, Bale breaks the 22-year-old record as far as we’re concerned, and we wouldn’t be surprised if he did so before the year is out.”
