Ajax to beat Standard Liege
Peter Bosz’s men will have been disappointed not to have made this year’s Champions League, and they can take their frustrations out tonight on a side who’ve never won on Dutch soil.
Ajax have been in incredible form of late, winning their last six in all competitions, scoring 12 goals and conceding just one since their opening group match against Panathinaikos.
Fiorentina to beat Qarabag FK
Fiorentina have enjoyed a fairly decent start to their season, having not lost since the opening day. And what will impress boss Paulo Sousa more is that his side have kept four clean sheets in their last five games.
They may only be 12th in Serie A right now, but they’re 1/2 favourites to top their Europa League group for a reason, and victory tonight will go a long way towards achieving that.
Zenit St. Petersburg to beat AZ Alkmaar
In their respective opening Europa League games, Zenit came from three down to beat Maccabi Tel Aviv with just 14 minutes remaining in Israel, while Alkmaar could only manage a 1-1 draw with Dundalk.
And since that night, both sides have won two and drawn one, but the Dutch outfit travel to a ground where only Benfica have won since the turn of the year. Expect that home advantage to play a big part in the outcome of this tie.
Maccabi Tel Aviv to beat Dundalk
We’re sticking with Group D for our fourth selection tonight, where Dundalk welcome the aforementioned Maccabi to the Republic of Ireland in what will be the first ever meeting between the two sides.
And while much has been said about the manner in which the Israeli side collapsed at home to Zenit two weeks ago, they’ve responded excellently, winning all three games since, scoring 11 and conceding none in the process.
They’ll be heading into this one with a point to prove, so don’t be surprised if the home side concede a few.
Feyenoord to beat Fenerbahce
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men impressed in their opener against Europa League title-favourites Manchester United, beating the Red Devils 1-0, while the Turkish outfit were held to a 1-1 draw against FC Zorya Luhansk.
Feyenoord are top of their domestic league with seven wins from as many games, while Fenerbahce have struggled to get going and find themselves in seventh place in the Super Lig.
Expect Dirk Kuyt and co to carry their fine form into this one.
