Liverpool to beat Derby County
It’s 17 years since Derby County last tasted victory against Liverpool, with the Reds winning seven of the last eight meetings between the two sides.
And if Derby’s league form is anything to go by, Nigel Pearson’s men will be in trouble tonight.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have already brushed aside one Championship team in the EFL Cup this year, beating Burton Albion 5-0, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Merseyside outfit won by a similar scoreline at Pride Park.
Arsenal to beat Nottingham Forest
These two haven’t met since the turn of the millennium, but it’s Wenger’s men who head into this match as odds-on favourites, even though they’re the away side.
This is a competition Wenger may look to take seriously this year, given that the Gunners were booted out of the competition by Sheffield Wednesday last year, and it’s also a cup the French boss has never won.
Could that change in his 20th year in charge? At 7/1, there’s every chance of it happening.
Everton to beat Norwich
Both of these sides head into this fixture in great league form, sitting comfortably in second place in their respective divisions.
It’s likely that Ronald Koeman will rest a number of his key players with one eye on Saturday’s trip to Bournemouth, but the Dutch boss certainly has strength in depth and Everton fans will expect to sail through to the fourth round.
The Toffees have the advantage of playing at home, and having won their last four meetings with the Rams, it’s hard to see a way past Koeman’s men in this one.
Bournemouth to beat Preston North End
Neither side has enjoyed the best of starts to this campaign, with Preston sitting in 19th place in the Championship, while Bournemouth are currently hovering around the Premier League relegation zone.
But once again it’s the top-flight side that have the home advantage, and the Cherries will be heading into this fixture with a psychological edge over their opponents, having beaten them on penalties at the same stage in last season’s League Cup.
Don’t expect Eddie Howe to alter his starting line-up too much for this one, as a good cup run could trigger some much needed form in the league.
Newcastle to beat Wolves
They’re the only team featuring in our EFL Cup Acca outside of the Premier League, but Newcastle United have been gifted a perfect opportunity for instant revenge over a side that beat them 2-0 last weekend in the Championship.
And Rafa Benitez will be keen to get his Newcastle side back to winning ways sooner, rather than later, so as to maintain momentum in the league.
Winning at St James’ Park is hard enough, but to do it twice in three days is a huge ask for this inconsistent Wolves side.
