Derby day hero De Bruyne is Premier League star of the weekend

Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne has been voted the Premier League’s standout player of the weekend, following a starring turn in the derby clash with rivals United.
The Belgian’s excellent anticipation to nip in front of Daley Blind and coolly slot past David de Gea handed City an advantage they never relinquished on Saturday afternoon.
And his performances certainly impressed our Twitter followers, who voted the 25-year-old as the star of the weekend.
De Bruyne claimed a whopping 62 per cent of the vote, leaving Liverpool’s two-goal hero Roberto Firmino way behind on 19 per cent.
Pantomine villain Diego Costa was the main man for Chelsea on Sunday, netting twice in their 2-2 draw at Swansea, but like yesterday’s contest, the Spaniard couldn’t quite win here either, coming third with 13 per cent.
Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny received a nomination in today’s vote, thanks to his acrobatic goal for the Gunners in their 2-1 win over Southampton.
Some six per cent of you voted ‘Other’ and we reckon other contenders must have included Tottenham’s Son Heung-Min and Watford’s Troy Deeney.
But none quite captured the spotlight like De Bruyne, whose performance at Old Trafford went a long way to already making Man City odds-on favourites to win this season’s Premier League.
If the Belgian keeps up his current standard, Pep Guardiola could well be heading for some major silverware in his first year in Manchester.
