Coventry City look to familiar faces in hunt for new manager

Published:

Coventry City are on the hunt for a new manager after Tony Mowbray’s resignation, and it seems the struggling side are set to put their faith in a familiar face, with current technical director Marc Venus and former City boss Steven Pressley both 5/2 to get the job.

Mowbray departed the West Midlands earlier today after 18 months in charge of the club, with City winless in their opening 10 league games, and bottom of League One.

And the Sky Blues board are likely to try and find a quick replacement, with the club heading into a run of three fixtures in eight days.

Despite having limited managerial experience, Venus is 5/2 joint favourite alongside Steven Pressley, whose odds have been dramatically smashed from 25/1 after a flurry of bets.

The pair are followed by former Leeds United boss Steve Evans at 4/1, while Kenny Jackett and Steve Cotterill are priced at 7s.

A Ladbrokes Spokesperson said: “It looks like Venus against ‘Elvis’ in this managerial battle, with City all shook up after Mowbray left the building.”

Cov are next in action on Saturday, with Venus 19/10 to deliver victory at Port Vale as caretaker boss. Deliver the club’s first League win of the season, and he could well sneak ahead in the market. Lose, and it could be Pressley’s gig again.
