Capital display sees odds cut on Newcastle breaking points record

Published:

Newcastle United ran riot in west London last night, putting six goals past QPR without reply, and the Magpies’ dominant victory has seen odds of them breaking their record of 102 points in the Championship fall from 8/1 to 9/2.

Rafa Benitez’s side have now won five league games on the trot, scoring 15 times and conceding just once, leaving them with 15 points from the opening seven fixtures.

The high-scoring Geordies are now 7/2 to net over 100 goals during this Championship campaign, while it’s 9/2 for them to notch up another 6-0 victory before the season ends.

And with this weekend’s opponents Wolverhampton Wanderers having lost their last outing 4-0 to Barnsley, that bet could realistically pay out very soon.

Optimistic Newcastle fans can back the side to finish in the Premier League’s top six next season at 33/1, while the humongous odds of 1000/1 says the Geordies win every remaining Championship game this season.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “Newcastle’s 6-0 hiding of QPR could be the result that propels them to smash their old points record and give the bookies a bashing of their own.”

Rafa’s men look good for victory over Wolves at St James’ Park at 8/13, and could leapfrog Huddersfield Town to take top spot by 17:00 on Saturday.
