Burnley v Watford: Goals at both ends as visitors third win

Published:

When the new season’s fixtures dropped through Watford’s letterbox at the start of the season, it’s possible they circled Burnley away as their best chance of a first win. As it is, they travel to Turf Moor in search of their third in a row.

The Hornets’ start to the campaign was the toughest of any team in the Premier League, with Southampton, Chelsea, Arsenal, West Ham and Manchester United all on their plate for the first five games.

But under new boss Walter Mazzarri the Vicarage Road club have thrived, taking seven points and defeating the Hammers and Red Devils in their last two outings.

They now travel north to Turf Moor full of confidence and as 31/20 favourites to pick up another set of three points.

Burnley have had their own moment of excitement, beating Liverpool 2-0 in the second game of the season despite the visitors dominating almost every aspect of the encounter.

That remains Sean Dyche’s only triumph of the short season so far though, with a 1-1 draw at home to Hull the only other point the Clarets have collected.

The reigning second-tier champions will fancy their chances of at least hitting the net against Watford though, with the visitors yet to keep a clean sheet in any encounter this season – including a EFL Cup fixture against League One Gillingham.

All six of the Hornets’ outings have seen both teams score and we go 8/11 that the streak is extended to seven in front of the Monday Night Football cameras.

Each of the last four meetings between the two teams have ended level (three of them as score draws) and it’s 11/5 that the sides cannot be separated once again here. Burnley are 2/1 to win.
